Ah, summertime in Paradise, CA. What’s not to love? There’s no shortage of live music, seasonal brew, outdoor grilling, fishing, hiking, camping, and so forth. Butte Creek Canyon offers some particularly breathtaking views this time of year, too. Just don’t have so much fun that you forget about your oral health needs! To keep you thinking about such things, the team here at Robert D. Moores, DDS has put together some guidelines for keeping your mouth clean and your smile looking great all through the season. Keep reading, and then be sure to get in-touch with our crew to schedule your next preventive dental appointment.
Steer Clear Of Sugary Snacks
A soft drink or sugary snack (especially a cold treat from Fosters Freeze) can be appealing in the summer, especially when you are camping, hanging by the pool, or out on the road. But such choices won’t be good for you in the long run because all that sugar will feed the bacteria that brings about tooth decay.
Drink Lots Of H2O
Drinking water is a great idea in general. Plus, it can help keep your breath fresh by allowing you to produce enough saliva to eradicate the bad-breath-causing bacteria. Any water with fluoride is even better!
Brush, Brush, Brush
Even though your routine may have relaxed a bit, you should still be brushing your teeth for 2 minutes or more, at least twice each day. This will keep cavities and gum disease at bay, and it will leave your mouth feeling refreshed.
Don’t Forget To Floss
You may have heard us say that brushing is the least you can do to protect your teeth and gums. Seriously! Brushing alone is never going to be enough to get the whole job done. To tackle the plaque and tartar that remains between your teeth and in other hard to see areas, dental floss is your best bet.
Rinse With Fluoride
There are fluoride mouthwashes available at any drugstore that can bring added oral health benefits. Be sure to check the labels for age-appropriateness!
